A GUIDE TO CEOSTYLE : 3 TIPS VIA NYFW 2015

February 20, 2015 By Betsy Garcete

I must confess, my earliest memory of the idea of a fashion show actually brings me to a silly but telling moment. Well, maybe not completely silly-- but here it is. I was twelve years old, my parents had gone to bed. I couldn't sleep. I flipped on the television and I accidentally came across this beautiful woman wearing a sparkly gown, strutting down a runway. It was an incredible red I'll never forget. So rich, mesmerizing and powerful. It was as if time stopped. Maybe I was drawn to it because of the music or her elegance. All I know is that it made me so happy, so filled with an appreciation for something I'd never seen before. Suddenly, I started crying. I should have known from that moment, what my life's passion would be. Sadly, it took about thirteen years to realize what I wanted to do. Only until recently can I finally feel confident and powerful in every step I take. Creating ZOPHIA and leaving my day job has given me that. It's given me CEOstyle.

Fashion Common Knowledge--- fashion shows give designers the opportunity to share their version of the world. In other words, fashion shows are the obsessive inner workings of their minds morphed into garments. It's like Christmas/New Years for us. Because of this, the epic buzz around fashion week will always exist. Interestingly, what's rarely talked about is the psychology of dress. So, I've taken a huge stab at it. Here are 3 ways to actually interpret powerful looks. Note: you don't need to go out shopping for this. Just learn how to think about CEOstyle.

1. STOP BEING AFRAID OF NOT MATCHING

There's a time and place to match. I love matching. But, when you need to feel good about the day ahead, try mixing patterns. Marc Jacobs and Diane Von Furstenburg live and breathe this concept. Try not to be predictable. Chances are, you'll get a compliment while you wait for your coffee. Better yet, you'll do something bold at work and get a bonus! Less boring. More CEO.

2. WOMEN WEAR MENSWEAR BETTER.

Enough said. Rock a full suit with some earrings and power is written all over you. The ties kill me. I absolutely have to stop a woman that wears a tie. I've done it in the past. Swoon.

3. SUCCESS TASTES BETTER IN LEATHER

Yes. It's hard to wear. Especially to work. But, if you can pull it off, you aren't going back. I'd personally recommend faux leather for the soul. But, I don't see enough women in the district take risks. Why? I'm begging you! This look is actually ageless. It's not about turning heads, it's about retuning your mind. That texture, that color. It screams 'frankly, I don't care, I feel great.'
